3. Giữ vệ sinh cá nhân; rửa tay thường xuyên bằng xà phòng và nước sạch hoặc dung dịch sát khuẩn tay; hạn chế đưa tay lên mắt, mũi, miệng;
4. Hạn chế tiếp xúc gần với người mắc hoặc nghi mắc bệnh đường hô hấp.
5. Duy trì lối sống lành mạnh, rèn luyện thân thể, ăn uống đủ chất, ngủ đủ giấc và thường xuyên giữ ấm cơ thể để nâng cao sức đề kháng.

TAKING ACTION TO PREVENT AND CONTROL SEASONAL INFLUENZA
Seasonal influenza is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by influenza viruses. It circulates year-round in Viet Nam, with the number of cases sometimes increasing depending on the region and weather conditions. Particular attention should be paid to prevention during seasonal transitions and the colder autumn and winter months.
Seasonal influenza spreads mainly from person to person through respiratory particles containing the virus that are released when an infected person coughs, sneezes or speaks. The risk of infection increases with close contact, in crowded places such as schools, healthcare facilities and public transport, and in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces. Most people with influenza experience mild symptoms and recover without the need for specific medical treatment.
However, influenza can cause serious illness and complications, particularly among high-risk groups, including adults aged 65 and over, children under five, pregnant women (especially during the third trimester), women in the first two weeks after childbirth, people with underlying medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, chronic lung disease, kidney failure, cirrhosis or diabetes, and people with weakened immune systems. To protect ourselves, our families and the wider community, we should follow these preventive measures:
- Wear a mask properly when visiting healthcare facilities, using public transport, or being in crowded places or enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces.
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing with a disposable tissue or your elbow. Dispose of used tissues properly and wash your hands immediately afterwards.
- Maintain good personal hygiene. Wash your hands frequently with soap and clean water or use hand sanitiser. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands.
- Limit close contact with people who have or are suspected of having a respiratory infection.
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle by exercising regularly, eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep and keeping warm to strengthen your body's natural defences.
- If you develop symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat or a runny nose, limit contact with others, rest and monitor your health. Wear a mask when around other people. Do not take antiviral medicines or antibiotics without a prescription from a healthcare professional.
- Regularly clean frequently touched surfaces. Ensure adequate ventilation in homes, workplaces and classrooms, and improve airflow in enclosed spaces.
- People at higher risk of severe influenza should take extra precautions. Limit visits to crowded places to reduce the risk of infection. If symptoms develop, contact a healthcare professional or visit a healthcare facility promptly for advice, medical assessment and appropriate care.
